Bankfield 0v1 Sacre Coeur
An excellent away victory today at Breckside Park beating last years rivals one nil. How Bankfield are bottom of the league without a win* is beyond me as they played some good attacking football. (If they could only stop whining both on and off the pitch they would probably win a few games) A pretty scrappy first 20 minutes with both sides looking for the opener. 21 mins in and a good run and shot by Big Dunc, playing in midfield, saw his shot zip wide. 32 mins gone and good work by Robbie Boardman with a powerful run through the middle saw his shot parried by the keeper. Ginger was on the spot to follow up and hiy home 1-0. Half Time 1-0. - must note that the referee had a great first half. During the half time break the Bankfield manager was having a 'chat' with the referee - and there's us thinking he was moaning about the first half. Five minutes into the second half and a good run and left foot strike by John Carra saw the keeper palm away at full stretch. Then the 'half time chat' by Bankfield's manager took effect. Robbie Boardman (who had his marker in his back pocket for most of the game) was blatantly pushed in the box - no pen. (Okay we'll let that go) Robbie was then blatantly tripped in the box - no pen. ![]() Then an deep long cross from the right was about to fall to Robbie to volley home and the outstretched hand of the defender pulled the ball out of the air and away from Robbie - no pen ![]() ![]() It was Sacre Coeur who had the better of the chances and pushed forward to extend their lead but had to rely on some last ditch tackles towards the end as Bankfield pressed for an equaliser. A hard fought victory against '12' men in the second half which could have been quite comfortable if two 'nailed on' penalties had been given and converted. A good run of form for the Coeur to remain 3rd in the league. ![]() ![]() ![]() [* Bankfield's win in the league table was awarded] |
