The optimism of a new season was in the air as Deano began his lengthy pre-match presentation. 40 mins later the team was able to get changed! A reasonably strong squad saw a couple of new faces Ste and Chris and the return of some more familiar faces - Andy, John and Sean.

Under a warm September sun both teams huffed and puffed in the early stages with neither team getting to grips on a hard and bobbly Buckley Hill pitch. Sadly it was Alsop who took the lead with a long ball that was lobbed on and in by their bustling forward from about 30 yards out.

Coeur responded well with some decent wing play down both sides by Matty Davies and Mick and sure enough it was from a decent cross from Matt the ginger wide man that Coeur equalised with a clever flicked header by Mick Roach.

Sadly that was as good as it got for he Coeur in the first half. More careless defending allowed Alsop to score again and the team struggled to bring any cohesion between defence, midfield and attack. Things were made worse by the withdrawal of Paul Flanagan in goal through injury. He was replaced by Ste from midfield.

The second half started in much the same ilk with Coeur conceding a few more careless goals against a well organised but distinctly average Alsop team.

A couple of substitutions however lead to an improvement in Coeur's lay as Alan Brown rolled back the years at right wing and Mick Coyle brought some pace to the right wing. In addition to this Chris Long was a shining light in cenral midfield as he worked tirelessly to get the ball and then was efficient in his distribution of it.

Coeur went close on a number of occasions with a few near misses, a couple of good saves and the woodwork denying them a goal.

Sadly this was all a little too late and, to the relief of those watching, the final whistle brought to an end a disappointing game which gave Deano plenty to think about for next week.

Fair point. For the record Mick was on the left wing last week.
