Robbie Phillips

Robbie had  his usual solid game but never stopped trying to support from full back, his influence from the full back position this year has been a real bonus, definately a frustrated forward trying to get out of him (but thats enough of Danny)

Wow, a huge sigh of relief was breathed at then end of this one, playing bottom of the league again it was always going to more difficult without the usual outlet of Danny but the starting eleven was certainly strong enough to beat them. But similar to last week we didnt click and struggled to get going.

The early exchanges showed Rhein were up for a game but a good save by the cat and some good recovery work from the defence kept us in it. The first goal fell to Rhein the first of unusual mistakes by our defence,  a throw in by our corner flag seen a short one to Peter who knocked it to Chris instead of the usual boot out of defence decided to play it to Dave who had the Rhein attacker closing him down he was caught in possesion at the edge of the box and the Rhein attacker got a shot off and it got under Neil.

We responsed well and pressed higher up the field and not long after the opening goal Andy Kin got the equaliser he deserved for all his hard work. A ball knocked towards the Rhein defence on the edge of the box was poorly dealt with by the Rhein centre half as he tried to deal with the pressure from Andy who got round the back and did great to finish in the bottom right hand corner.

I felt we would gain confidence and push on from that point but again another unusual mistake give Rhein a chance. A ball not dealt with by our midfield fell back to our defence who got caught in two minds, with a scramble of bodies it fell to the sole Rhein forward who who pushed through and dinked it over the cat who had gone to ground.

Confidence drained a bit from this point and we didnt create much until half time

Half time 1- 2

I decided to change from 451 and took Martin off for Gav Price, Gav went centre half Dave went upfront to help Andy and Cav dropped to right back. From the beginning of the second half we looked sharper and pressed forward Dave and Andy causing the Rhein defence all sorts of problems but we couldnt get the equaliser, Dave and Andy both had a few chances and were both unlucky not to score.

I brought Mick on at left mid for Cav and we went 3 at the back, this extra pressure done the job and we got a corner which led to about 4 corners in a row from Rhein clearing it unable to deal with our physical presence in the box. The final corner was a great ball in and met by Gav powered in the equaliser.

Like the first half I felt we were going to push on from this point and win and thats what we did, Rhein stayed with 1 upfront and played for the draw and we had attack after attack, Mick Lynch got the ball on the left and did a great run past the Rhein defence into the box and finished in the bottom right hand corner great goal. We had chances after that but nothing too clear cut and we went back to 442 with Fran going as a right back.

The game was seen out and we were relieved we got away with it, but if your going to win the league thats what you need to do.

I was pleased with the win and the attitude of everyone sticking togther and battling for one another well done lads, 6 games to go.

With Colliegate losing to Old Xavs we are top of the league now and I intend to stay their until the end, strongest team available will picked as im sure most will understand.

COME ON!!!
