With the curse of not being able to win four games on the bounce over us it felt like it was going to happen again today with a series of chances missed in the first half.
Liobians started well for the first 10 minutes but after that we controlled most of the game until the final minute. The first half was as frustrating as any this season I cant remember what order it all came in (the Christmas drinks have puddled my brain) but lynchy missed a one on one with the keeper after a good decision by the ref not to play the forward onside when lynchy played the ball forward, lynchy carried on running and got onto the end of his own pass but caught between passing and shooting the keeper stuck out a foot and put it behind for a corner.
Danny missed a couple of one on ones, the keeper pulling off a good save for one of them, so when Richie stepped up for a penalty in which Danny was fouled, we all hoped he would bury it like last week but once again the keeper foiled us with a decent save. Richie had a chance to put his penatly miss behind him soon after, a great shot saved by the keeper fell for Richie to run onto he got to it before the keeper slide in struck it well but it hit the post and went out for a goal kick.
Andy then created a great chance from nothing, the keeper came out for a ball but got caught in no mans land as Andy chased him down the keeper scrabbled back to his line, Andy did great to spin and perfectly lob the ball but as it was about to drop into the net the keeper got back and tipped it over the bar.
With changing the pitch at Buckley as it was waterlogged, i was starting to think the curse may continue and could hear Dave already preparing to slate me for the change.
We played well in the first half and created a host of chances some im sure ive forgotten about and on another day would have been 4 - 0 up, but in windy conditions it wasnt to be and it was stalemate at half time
half time 0 - 0
Cav felt light headed at half time and asked to go off giving Peter a go in the middle for the second half.
We started off like we ended the first half, brightly but unable to get that cutting ball through and into the net. Being the top manager i am i switched the wingers, Richie to the right and JB vice versa. This brought success nearly straight away, Richie played a nice ball through and Danny did well got his shot off and it deflected over the keeper to break the deadlock.
Dannys second was a one two with JB in the box, Danny thought he was offside but finished through the keepers legs only to find the left back had played him on.
Normally when we have gone 2 - 0 up in games this year we push on and destroy team but today we took our foot off the gas a little, the wind didnt help.
Great running from Andy kept dragging the defneders away from Danny giving him the space to exploit the defence.
With Rob Phillips out for the next two games going to see his cockney geezers, little Gav come on at left back, Gav immediately fell on his arse but the grass was quite long so it was like running through a cornfield to him.
With 15 minutes to go I came on for JB, Lynchy went to left mid and i went into the middle, Liobians tried to lift the tempo and had a good chance hitting the post.
The third goal come from a corner, the ball was cleared and i headed it back into the box and a ball was played over to Dan on the right handside just outside the box, he placed the ball in the bottom right hand corner to give us the relief and insurance we needed to see the game out.
Liobians got a consolation goal which the defence didnt deserve to conceed, the centre mid ran through Andy, myself and Peter gave chase but a clash of bodies see Richie blocked and it gave them an overlap on Gary which was laid off onto the left midfielder who had a lot of work to do to beat the fat cat, but he smashed it hard and fat cat had no chance.
We just had to see the game out with 5 minutes to go which we did.
full time 3 -1
Another good performance, certainly in windy conditions, long grass and the curse to beat. The defence brillant again and didnt deserve to conceed.
The football continues to get better but certainly better to come, well done everyone lets smash Waterloo next week and aim to finish the year off with 6 wins on the bounce.
TWAT OF THE MATCH - Dave having words a small child on the sideline, my money would have been on the kid if it had gone off
