Four goals in just over an hour shows that despite his advancing years, Chrissy is still a class act

Coeur came into this game an the back of two victories, despite not impressing in either and were looking for a decent performance as well as the correct result. The first round of the cup pitted them against Barrluca who were flying high in the second division, having won 5 drawn 1 and lost 1 of the 7 games thus far.

For once Coeur had the luxury of a choice of substitutes, and thankfully Si never got near a kit. Andy and Jacko were re-united at centre half, Mick's Taylor and Lynch flanked them. In midfield Rob and Dave were left and right respectively with Ryan being partnered by Degsi. Up front saw Chrissy and Ste Alty in tandem.

Coeur began brightly knocking the ball round and looked threatening every time the went forward. Good chances were created early on with Alty and Chrissy both going close. Coeur took the lead on 15 minutes when Paul Jackson popped up in the box to prod the ball home from 10 yards. Within 7 minutes Coeur had doubled their lead when Chrissy Whelan flicked on a Rob Hatton cross and Dave Sutton managed to rise highest to nod in at the back post.
YES IT REALLY DID HAPPEN!!

Alty and Rob Hatton both went close again as did Ryan, but it was Chrissy Whelan who added to the scoreline when he fired Coeur 3 up on 35 minutes.

Barrluca looked lively up front and had a few half chances but were generally well marshalled by Coeur's backline. However they did manage to grab a goal back just before the interval.

The second half saw Coeur playing some decent football and attacking at will. Chrissy Whelan went into overdrive and managed to bag three goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. The game was effectively over at this point but Coeur continued to press. Chrissy was withdrawn at this point and Paul Carragher was given a 25 minute cameo.

Barrluca then grabbed a second against the run of play, yet Coeur responded well and created more chances. Firstly Ste Alty proved it just wasnt his day as another good chance went begging. Mick Taylor then wasted a fantastic opportunity after some scintilating playthrough midfield and down the left flank. Paul Carragher then managed to screw a chance just past the upright.

Despite leading 6-2 Coeur could have been 12 up at this stage. Sensing there were maor goals in teh game the continued to carve Barrluca open. Paul Carragher broke clear and fired off a shot only for the keeper to block it. Calmly though Paul collected the rebound, and slotted it home.

Aidy and Ste were introduced from the bench replacing an elated Dave Sutton and a tiring Ryan Crosbie. On 80 minutes Paul Carragher added his second and Coeur eigth with a rising left footed drive into the top corner of the net. A brilliant finish.

Just after the goal Ste Ally felt a pain in his chest so was withdrawn immediately so as to take no chances (he is fine now). With Coeur being down to 10 Barrluca managed to snatch a late goal, but it was way too little too late.

At last a decent performance and an excellent victory. This should hopefully see Coeur in better shape to face Leyfield next week.
