Dave Mortimer

In a 1st half no one covered themselves in glory. Some good second half performances could have won MOM , but Dave edges it for the amount of header he won and never stopped battling from the fron, a real leader on the pitch when we needed one. Well done!

Neil Oldfield (GK) 8, Martin  Somers (RB) 10 Pad Mac (CB) , Gary Bourne (CB) 8, Rob Cavendish (LB) 8, Chris Lawless (RM) 8, Darren Hoare (CM) Dave Mortimor (CM) 9, Karl Houghton (CM) 7, Fran Pearson (LM) 8 Danny Pimbley (CF) 9 , Tal (RM) 6, Gary Hayles (RB)

A tough day at the office, with hardly any injuries all season we got two players off within the first 30 minutes. Paddy pulled a muscle in his leg after five minutes and Martin broke his leg going into a tackle were on another day the Kingsford player may have been sent off. I wish them both a speedy recovery in particular Martin who had 3 pins put in his leg and may effect him playing ever again for Northern Ireland. Joking aside all the best Martin.

In a game which the pitch didnt help and was very bobbly the ball seemed to bounce around a lot with the early injuries not helping we appeared a bit nervous at times. The first goal came from a poor clearance by Karl which didnt even make the edge of the box, Martin tried to head it clear to Tal who wasnt strong enough in the tackle and the ball was crossed back into the box and the Kingsford defender got the wrong side of Rob Cav to finish. It was good goal by Kingsford but several errors made by players who should of done better. The second goal came from a Kingsford throw down the left myself and Rob Cav failed to deal with the ball thrown in allowing the Kingsford attacker to head it on to another Kingsford player in the box who fouled by Chris as he tried to turn him (not in the way Chris has turned Paddy). Kingsford dispatched the pen nicely.

We kept trying to play but so many passes going stray, we pushed forward on several occasions and the best chance came as a throw from Danny (no one knew he could throw the ball that far) and Franny headed nicely but hitting the post. Everything that could have gone wrong in the first half did.

half time 0 - 2

With Gary Hayles coming on for Martin at right back, I went to left back and Rob Cav came into the middle and Dave pushed upfront with Danny. The second half was much improved and we played to our strengths again defending stronger and not  fannying around with the ball, Dave was key in the second half winning header after header we lumped it up and hoped Danny got on the end of something. And thats exactly what happened for our first goal. The ball came to me and it fell nicely for me to lift high towards the edge of the Kingsford box and Dave flicked on a perfect header into the path of Danny who took his time before lobbing it over the oncoming Kingsford keeper, it seemed to take an age to drop and go over the line. With that goal the belief the boys come back and we attacked time and time again giving Kingsford very little the only option they had was trying to get it over me at lleft back which they did a couple of time for Chris and Gary to cover me and defend brillantly.Hitting the bar and a nice move involing Franny and Danny with Franny hitting it wide were it looked easier to score. With 5 minutes to go Danny got the ball at the edge of the box and running between 3 Kingsford defenders he got slightly touched and gave us a deserved chance to get back into the game.

I could barely watch but watched Danny finish nicely to the keepers left as he dived the other way. We didnt have long to get the winning and continued to push forward but we were unable get the winning goal. With Waterloo beating Richmond 6 - 0 the draw was a massive result as now it wont go down to goal difference, as long as we dont get beat on Saturday the league is ours to throw away. In the past these sort of games would have seen us give in, but everyone battled hard should be proud of that point. We have given ourselves the best chance of winning the league.

Full Time 2 - 2

Lets win on Saturday boys and go win this league! COME ONNNNNNNNNNN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
