First game for this new Sacre Couer team, due to an in different preseason, without being able to get all the lads together their will be a few lungs retrieved on Buckley Hill tomorrow.
However after a slow start the team defended well and tried to feed in Danny Pimbley as best as they could. An early clash of heads between Brannigan and Devlin led to Couer using the only sub they had forcing a change around of players.
It looked like it was going to be nil nil at half time until a moment of brilliance by Danny down the left wing before slotting past the Richmond keeper.
The second half started pretty similar to the first with Pimbley continually getting fouled by the opposition but with no action from the ref. This caused Pimbley to chase a Richmond defender down winning the ball off him with an excellent tackle before rounding another defender and then the keeper before slotting into an empty net. From this point fitness was starting to show and with a comfortable lead Couer defended well dealing with lots of pressure from Richmond which resulted in Neil Oldfield making countless saves one in particular being Schmeichel-esque in which he starburst before parrying the ball away. Clarke who normally plays right back gave a faultless display as centre half due to the early changes, and Brannigan played excellent in particular after the early clash of heads were he was clearly shaken. Taleb and Lawless continued to support Pimbley and were in some excellent moves throughout the game which could and should have resulted in a goal. Hoare got his obligatory booking early on in the season, Im sure that wont be the last.
In all a good solid performance with a clean sheet and three points. Congratulations to Rob Cavendish in his first competitive game as captain, he worked hard as normal and encouraged the team until the last minute despite obvious tiredness. Heres to a successful season and many more wins.
