Tough decisions had to be made this week due to the tremendous turnout of players for Deano and Alan to pick from. Reluctantly four players didnt even get on subs bench that means twenty plus players were available this week.
To the game ,couer started gainly and good movement from the flanks saw an opportunity for the spectacular. Seven minutes into the game Mark Growney saw the keeper off his line, and then lobbed him with genuine ease a full forty yards from goal into the top right hand corner. This puts Growney in pole position for the goal of the season at this early stage of the season. Couer then pressed again and soon we were rewarded in the twelveth minute a second goal delightfully dispatched by Chris Whelan. Couer bounded forward yet again and after a half chance by Whelan, up popped the goal scoring phenomenon Mike Roach to notch his eleventh of the season and couers third in the twenty sixth minute of this game. He soon added to the tally in the thirty first minute. HT.4-0.
Couer were slugish coming out of the stalls in the second half but after some good work up poped Chris Whelan to make it five nil. Subs were started to be put on at regular intervals and it soon became apparent that strength in depth was invaluable. Couer added another goal to make it six in the fifty second minute from the other Whelan brother Jonny this time. Couer continued to dominate despite the bad weather. A mistimed tackle gave Alder a free kick on the edge of the box were quick thinking gave them a goal before a wall could be set up.[mental note; stand over the ball until ref tells you to move]. Couer held there heads up a battle cry from the side lines "we want more goals" and the players on the park truly obliged a stunning goal from Jonny Whelan again making it seven - one in the seventy eighth minute and to complete his hat-trick Jonny scored with the last kick of the game all in all a pleasure to watch thanks boys.
