A good start against new Vets team Old Xavs, well new in the sense its their first season of Vets football but lots of familiar faces from Xavs teams of the past.
Anyway back to the action in this Coeur goal feast. Coeur started off quite well and took a deserved lead after 15 minutes when Xavs failed to be clear the ball ending up with Mike Roach slotting his first of five from close range. The next period of play was fairly even with good defensive work by Flanagan, Looby and Rannard preventing Xavs from shooting. Xavs pulled one back five minutes before half time with a speculative looping shot that luckily looped over debutant keeper Billy Humphray. Couer restored the lead just before half time after good work down the right produced an excellent cross that Mike Roach swept home from 6 yards.
Coeur second half performace saw a few minor scares on the whole Xavs created very few clear cut chances. Sacre Coeurs third goal was probably the best of the game when a cross field pass from Mark Growney found Matty Davies just inside the box and full stretch Davies sending a low volley into the far bottom corner.
The fourth goal and a hat trick for Mike Roach cam in bizarre circumstances the Xavs defence and Roachy all stopped when they heard a whistle, but this was on the next pitch, the referee shouted to play on and Roach slotted into the empty next from the edge of the area.
Roach scored his fourth lobbing over the keeper after a good move set him free.
Mark Growney scored the sixth with a nice volley from 12 yards into the far corner. The scoring was completed by Roach with a delicate header into the corner after a good cross from the left.
A good team performance with several players in unfamiliar positions all contributing well especially Jay Halpin in central midfield and Alan Brown upfront.
