Wes Grego

Wes put in a hardworking shift, scoring the goal and was unlucky not to add to Coeurs tally

After last weeks spirited, yet fruitless performance against Bankfield, Coeur lined up against Alsop for the second time this season. Earlier in the season Coeur had triumphed in a comfortable 2-0 victory and extended their excellent unbeaten run. The return match however proved to be a different kettle of fish. We wont go into the selection problems that Si Furlong was once again faced with, but suffice to say it was far from a full strength side and in fact the bench consisted solely of Si himself.

The match opened at a lively pace with both sides attacking at will. Unfortunately for Coeur it was Alsop who took the lead, courtesy of a stunning own goal by Mick McLoughlin. the ball was crossed in from the right and Mick flung himself in to try and divert the danger, but could only manage to slice the ball into the net. Coeur continued to attack and got back on level terms when Damien Mooney tore down the right wing and drilled the ball across where Weg Grego flew in to crack home the equaliser. Both sides had further chances but the score remained level at the interval

Half Time 0 - 0

The second half saw Coeur dominant forcing Alsop back almost constantly with Alsop having just a few chances on the break. Unbelievably Alsop managed to take the lead on the break after a poor mistake on Coeur's left. Coeur then pressed forward at will but Damien and Wes were both unable to convert good chances. Alsop almost doubled their lead when Mick McLoughlin managed a carbon copy slice, fortunately this time the ball struck the keeper in the face rather than hitting the back of the net. Coeur continued to dominate, however Damien missed a few more gilt edged chances as Alsop lived dangerously at the back. The final straw came after more poor play allowed Alsop to escape and fire home a stunning third. Coeur continued to push but their efforts were in vein after further chances were squandered.

The match was summed up by opposition manger Bob who said 'You missed far too many good chances and I can't even remember the last time we scored against you Si, let alone won!'
A dissapointing performance in an open match as Coeur's stranglehold over Alsop was finally broken.
