Leyfield 1 v 2 Sacre Coeur
The scoreline looks like it was a close game but it flattered Leyfield as the Coeur took control of most of the game, missed a couple of gilt edged chances and defended well when required.
The game started with the pitch soft and slippy on top which doesn't suit Coeur fluent passing game and it showed as Coeur huffed and puffed for the first 45 mins with few chances either side.
At halftime the scoreline remained goalless but with Coeur realising that the game and three points were there for the taking seemed to step it up a gear when mattered. However, it was Dave 'The Goalie' Moran who was called into action, fingertipping a rare Leyfield strike on to the post where T-bob steeered the ball away to safety. With Currie partnering T-bob at centre-half and the ever impressive fullbacks Stuey Aitjin & Jack Doran, Coeur's defence held firm.
With Jamesey and Lee Owens dominating the midfield and wingers Roachy and Robbie Boardman using the flanks well it was only a matter of time before the Coeur scored.
Robbie Boardman received the ball on the left, cut inside and drove a delightful left foot strike into the corner of the net. 1-0.
This had followed good work up front and relentless closing down play by John Carra and Ginger up front.
Within a couple of minutes Robbie Boardman had put Coeur two up when he cleverly closed down the defender from a goal kick, stole the ball and drilled a shot passed the keeper. 2-0.
Coeur were now cruising a the crowd (all 4 of us) were expecting a deluge of goals.
Co Manager Mick Carra replaced the injured Stuey Aitkin at left back and Cherry Bomber replaced the injured (sore arse honest ) Roachy.
Unfortunately the next goal of the game went to Leyfield. A free kick outside the box was flicked over the keeper to a Leyfied attacker standing on the goalline (offside??) to tap home 2-1.
Cue Leyfield then thinking that they could force an equaliser - even trying to take a quick throw-in when a Coeur player was down injured. (Now that's very sporting is it No.14? ).
Anyway, Couer defended well for the last 15 minutes and even managed to miss a couple of good chances to increase teir lead further.
Full Time 2-1.
A good team performance earning a good 3 points.
