Sacre Coeur 6 v 2 Collegiate
A good win against a strong physical and challenging Collegiate side helped by the fact we were 2 nil up after 6 minutes and they went down to 8 men towards the end of the game.
After a few minutes Dave 'The Goalie' Moran took a long free kick (60 yards) which eluded the Collegiate keeper to find the net and put Coeur 1-0 up.
A couple of minutes later and a innocuous cross was headed into his own net by a Collegiate defender to put Coeur 2-0 up.
This is were the story unfolds... Collegiate (in my humble opinion) were guilty of a few expletives towards the referee (and anyone else in earshot) from the kick off and it was no surprise that it would only end in heartbreak for them as the referee was being assessed. And we all know what happens when referees are being assessed .... common sense goes out of the window and the letter of the law is always strictly applied.
Anyway Collegiate pulled one back after a ball over the top was well controlled and dispatched by the Collegiate forward. 2-1.
With 5 minutes left on the clock of the first half a long ball forward was instantly controlled by Robbie Boardman who cut inside and cracked in a great shot to make it 3-1.
Second half started like the first with Sacre Coeur first out of the traps. Within a minute a through ball found Cherry Bomber who curled a great shot around the keeper for 4-1.
After a couple of bookings for Collegiate players including a potential leg breaker on Tbob (but just missed), one of the players decided to challenge Dave 'The Goalie' as he was kicking the ball out of his hands which he was duly booked again for and sent (as the referee was being assessed). The one funny bit being the lad protesting his innocence as he thought he'd done nothing wrong. Anyway, Collegiate took exception to the referee for this and continued to verbally abuse him at every decision which then resulted in another two early baths and the manager being sent off as well.
Collegiate pulled one back from a penalty to make it 4-2 after Tbob 'sore neck' made him give a penalty away. Dave 'The Goalie' was unlucky not to save his 11th penalty on the bounce.
A Cooper 'wonder goal' extended the lead again. 5-2. Copper receiving the ball on his favoured left foot, cutting inside a dispatching a cracking right foot curling shot beyond the keeper.
Just on full time a through ball found the onrushing Robbie Boardman who cooly slotted home to finish off the game 6-2.
All credit to the lads who kept playing football and didn't get involved in any of the 'shananigans'. Also 3 of the regular back four were missing today, Bowey, Carra and Cooper stepping in alongside Tbob. Stuey Aitkin arriving for the 2nd Half. A good battling midfield of Robbie, Cherry, Lee Owens and Roachy was spearheaded by a front two of Ginger and Big Dunc, with Kingy coming on in the second half.
Another 3 points towards promotion.
