| This week's report is brought to you from the keyboard of Paul Morgan
Having watched the previous weeks performance against a poor Bankfield team I arrived at Buckley Hill expecting an improved performance from the lads. I was not disappointed the first half hour was keenly contested against a useful Newman side, with Coeur winning most of the 50/50 balls in the middle of the park and playing some nice approach football. The reward finally came with Mick (the salmon) Kennedy launching himself like a polaris missile to hang in the air and produce a stunning trademark overhead into the roof of the net. Up to half time Si was untroubled in goal with the back three comfortably containing the Newman attack. Some poor decision making about when to play football and when to find row Z still haunt us occasionally, but on the whole it was a classy first half performance.
Half Time 1 - 0
The wind was not helping either side an neither was the ref who made some strange decisions and I must say mostly in favour of the opposition. The next half hour was again a close affair but with Coeur enjoying the better of the exchanges. One standout moment was some great one touch interplay between Gav, Rob and I think Shelley which deserved a goal but it did not arrive. For some reason we lost our grip on the game. Newman gradually started to get the ball into the danger zone and were awarded a succession of free kicks, for the first time we looked uneasy, a move which looked harmless enough saw the ball played down the right, the ball was whipped in and their forward was first the ball to guide a header over Si as he grasped thin air. The confidence visibly drained from Coeur, the deathly hush came over everybody barring Andy and Mick and suddenly Newman were in control. They quickly took advantage of their short lived superiority and scored a scrappy goal out of nothing. I was gutted for the lads and trudged away to kick a few cats. A draw would have seen newman getting out of jail, a win was daylight robbery.
Full Time 1 - 2
Man of the Match: Derrick Burns
Not often I agree with anyone about anything lately (think its the frustration of watching ask Dave Looby) but Degsy did keep things ticking with good intelligent balls and won his fair share of tackles.
